The Agri-Food Pilot is a unique immigration pilot program designed to address Canada's labor shortages in the agricultural sector. As the demand for skilled agri-food professionals grows, the pilot provides a pathway for experienced, non-seasonal workers to attain permanent residence in Canada.

Key Features of the Agri-Food Pilot:

  • Limited Duration: The pilot program will continue until May 2023, allowing a maximum of 2,750 principal applicants and their families to be admitted to Canada every year.
  • Occupational Focus: The program targets select agri-food industries and occupations, creating a specialized pathway for individuals with relevant skills and experience.

Agri-Food Pilot Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Agri-Food Pilot, you must meet the following minimum criteria:

1. Agri-Food Pilot Work Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of non-seasonal, full-time work experience (1,560 hours) through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program in the past 3 years.
  • Work experience must be in one of the eligible Agri-Food Pilot occupations.

2. Job Offer Requirements:

  • Job offer must be in an eligible occupation within the agri-food industry.
  • Full-time position (at least 30 paid hours per week).
  • Non-seasonal employment with consistent and regularly scheduled paid work throughout the year.
  • Permanent employment with no specified end date.

3. Language Proficiency:

  • Proficiency in English or French through official language tests such as CELPIP, IELTS, TEF Canada, or TCF Canada.

4. Education:

  • If education credentials are obtained outside Canada, an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report for immigration purposes is required.

5. Proof of Funds:

  • Adequate funds to settle in Canada with family members, unless already working in Canada with a valid work permit during the application submission.

  • Retail butchers (NOC B 6331)
  • Industrial butchers (NOC C 9462)
  • Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers (NOC B 8252)
  • Food processing labourers (NOC D 9617)

Greenhouse, Nursery, and Floriculture Production (NAICS 1114):

  • Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers (NOC B 8252)
  • General farm workers (NOC C 8431)
  • Harvesting labourers (NOC D 8611)

Animal Production (NAICS 1121, 1122, 1123, 1124, and 1129):

  • Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers (NOC B 8252)
  • General farm workers (NOC C 8431)

Application Limits:

  • Limited number of applications accepted annually for each occupation on a first-come, first-served basis.
